Overview of the Tamron SP 85mm f/1.8 Di VC USD Lens
The Tamron SP 85mm f/1.8 Di VC USD Lens is a premium short-telephoto prime lens, specifically designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs. This lens is highly regarded for portraiture, combining classic focal length with modern optical performance. Featuring advanced optical design with one Low Dispersion (LD) element and one Extra Low Dispersion (XLD) element, it effectively reduces chromatic aberrations and color fringing, resulting in superior clarity and color accuracy.
Key Features of the Tamron SP 85mm f/1.8 Di VC USD Lens
- Ideal Portrait Lens: Designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs and compatible with DX models, offering a 127.5mm equivalent focal length.
- Fast f/1.8 Maximum Aperture: Enhances low-light performance while providing extensive control over focus placement, allowing for beautiful subject isolation and selective imagery.
- Advanced Optical Design: The lens incorporates 13 elements in 9 groups, including both LD and XLD glass elements, which significantly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the aperture range.
- Coatings for Clarity: The eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coatings minimize surface reflections, lens flare, and ghosting, ensuring improved contrast and color fidelity.
- Vibration Compensation (VC): This feature minimizes camera shake effects by up to 3.5 stops, providing sharper handheld shots, particularly in low-light settings.
- Fast and Quiet Autofocus: Equipped with a ring-type USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) motor and optimized actuator, the lens delivers rapid, precise, and near-silent autofocus performance. It also allows for full-time manual focus control.
- Weather-Resistant Construction: Designed with moisture-resistant seals around the lens mount, it can withstand challenging conditions. A fluorine coating on the front element repels water, fingerprints, and smudges for easier maintenance.
- Pleasing Bokeh Quality: The rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to smooth and aesthetically pleasing out-of-focus areas, enhancing shallow depth of field effects.
- Electromagnetic Diaphragm System: This system ensures consistent exposure results, especially during high-speed continuous shooting.
- TAP-in Console Compatibility: Users can update the lens firmware and adjust focus settings using the optional TAP-in Console and TAP-in Utility software.
- Included Software: The lens comes with SILKYPIX Developer Studio software for Tamron, which facilitates basic raw processing and image adjustments while correcting various aberrations, including color fringing and distortion.
