Overview

The Sony FE 50mm f/1.2 GM is a versatile prime lens that combines impressive speed, exceptional optical quality, and lightweight design, making it an ideal choice for everyday shooting. As part of the renowned G Master series, this lens prioritizes high resolution and beautiful bokeh. It features advanced optics and a sophisticated focusing system, making it suitable for both photography and videography in various conditions.

G Master Optical Performance

The FE 50mm f/1.2 GM excels in sharpness and bokeh quality thanks to its innovative design, which includes:

Extreme Aspherical (XA) Elements: Three XA elements effectively reduce astigmatism, field curvature, and other spherical aberrations, ensuring high image clarity.
Nano AR Coating II: This coating minimizes reflections, flare, and ghosting, enhancing contrast and color fidelity, especially in challenging lighting conditions.
Floating Focus Mechanism: Ensures consistent sharpness across the focusing range.

Exceptional Speed and Versatility

With its normal 50mm focal length, this lens is perfect for a wide range of subjects, including portraits, street photography, landscapes, and architecture. Key features include:

Wide f/1.2 Aperture: Provides an extremely shallow depth of field, allowing for effective subject separation against busy backgrounds.
Rounded 11-Blade Diaphragm: Contributes to smooth, circular bokeh for aesthetically pleasing background blur.

Fast and Accurate Autofocus

Equipped with four XD Linear Motors, this lens offers quick, quiet, and precise autofocus, making it ideal for both stills and video. Additional features include:

AF/MF Switch: Conveniently located on the lens barrel for quick switching between autofocus and manual focus.
Minimum Focusing Distance: A close focusing distance of 1.3 feet allows for dynamic close-up shots.

Compact and Durable Design

Despite its high-performance features, the FE 50mm f/1.2 GM remains relatively compact and lightweight, measuring 3.4 x 4.4 inches and weighing 1.7 pounds. Its design includes:

Dust and Moisture Sealing: Protects against inclement weather and environmental conditions.
Fluorine-Coated Front Element: Resists dust, moisture, and fingerprints, making it easier to clean.

Great, with minor notes
Highly satisfied with the Sony FE 50mm f/1.2 GM Lens (Sony E). It balances nicely on my body and isn’t tiring to carry all day. Autofocus is fast, quiet and accurate. The Sony E variant looks even better in person. It handles both my paid shoots and my personal projects perfectly. Only 4 stars because the price is a bit high, but the quality justifies it.
