Key Features of the Nikon NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S
Long Reach, Compact Design
- Lightweight Construction: Weighing only 2.7 lb and measuring just 9.2″ long, this lens is designed for easy handling, resembling the size of a typical 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.
- Innovative Optical Design: Incorporates specialized elements to achieve a lightweight and compact build, offering a practical f/4.5 maximum aperture that balances size, speed, and weight.
S-Line Optics
- Advanced Glass Elements: Features one ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element and two Super ED elements, as well as one SR (short-wavelength refractive) element to virtually eliminate aberrations and ensure accurate color rendering.
- Nano Crystal Coat: Applied to enhance anti-glare protection, minimizing ghosting and flare while improving color response in challenging lighting conditions.
Autofocus and Vibration Reduction
- Efficient Autofocus System: Utilizes stepping motors for quick, accurate, and quiet focusing, suitable for both still and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also available.
- Vibration Reduction: Reduces camera shake by approximately 5.5 stops, and when paired with compatible cameras featuring sensor-shift VR, it can provide up to 6 stops of compensation.
Professional Handling and Construction
- Removable Tripod Foot: The included foot can be easily removed for a slimmer design, perfect for handheld shooting.
- User-Friendly Controls: The lens features an intuitive control layout for quick access to frequently used settings, along with separate focus and programmable control rings for tactile shooting experience.
- Weather-Sealed Design: Constructed with rubber gaskets to prevent dust and moisture entry, along with a fluorine coating on exposed elements for easier cleaning.
Additionally, the lens includes customizable buttons for enhanced functionality, a focus limiter switch, and compatibility with optional Z-Teleconverters for extended reach. It uses front screw-in 95mm filters.
